We at Battle Mountain Dental can offer you relief from your toothache with a root canal treatment. Years ago, the idea of a root canal caused some worry or concern. But today, with the many up-to-date general dentistry innovations and technology, root canals are usually far less painful than the toothache they are eliminating!
What is a Root Canal?
A root canal is a procedure that is used when the root pulp in a tooth becomes infected. Tooth pulp was an essential part of the tooth when you were younger–it helped the tooth mature. However, once the tooth is mature, tooth pulp is no longer necessary and it can become infected. This infection is what causes your toothache.
What is the Root Canal process?
- First, Dr. Thompson will give you a regular exam. This helps him analyze your overall dental health. If he finds problems (which, of course, is probable if you have a toothache!) he may recommend a root canal.
- He will numb the area and then clean out the infected tooth pulp.
- Once this is complete, he will place some antibiotic medicine.
- Finally, he will either put tooth-colored filling material on the repaired tooth, or, if needed, he will place a dental crown onto the tooth to make sure the tooth is fully protected.
