Dental Crowns and Bridges
Do you have some problems in your smile you would like to see resolved–beautifully and permanently? There are several restorative and cosmetic dentistry treatments available. Several Dr. Thompson recommends are dental crowns and dental bridges.
Dental crowns are a cap for your teeth that may have damage or other issues. A tooth crown is made of porcelain and bonded to your original tooth. Dr. Thompson at Battle Mountain Dental will make an impression of your mouth and then send this information to the lab, which then creates a tooth crown custom-made for you. Dental crowns look completely like your natural teeth, so you can laugh and smile and get your photo taken with complete confidence. A tooth crown also feels natural and often better than the damaged tooth it replaces. Finally, dental crowns function just like natural teeth, and require no special care. Even better–they will never get a cavity!
For many situations, dental crowns are an excellent choice. Some of these are:
- If you have a tooth that has a lot of dental work and may be fragile and susceptible to getting a cavity, a tooth crown can repair this.
- If you have missing teeth, dental crowns can restore (top) dental implants, creating a “new” tooth and tooth root.
- If you have a tooth that is too small, cracked, broken, chipped, misshapen or discolored, a tooth crown is an excellent restorative dentistry procedure.
If you have a gap in your smile that is composed of one or several teeth side-by-side, dental bridges can repair this.
A dental bridge in an appliance that can either be permanently secured (called fixed) or can be removable. Dental bridges are attached on each side of the gap to dental crowns. The fixed dental bridges are attached permanently. Removable dental bridges are like a retainer and can clip in and out.
If you have more than one tooth missing that is side by side, you have a dental implant or implants placed on each side of the gap and the dental bridge can be attached to the dental crowns that top the implants.
